Mild Steel Welding Rods 3.2mm - E6818-W2 4kg Pack
If you want to read what the manufacturer says then read below but if you want the overview then this bit is for you. The MacTrode E6818-W2 rod is a low hydrogen MMA rod that is designed specifically for weathering steels such as Corten.
Because of the above if you get these rods damp and require to rebake them then it does require a higher heat for a slightly longer than normal time. 300 to 350 degrees C for 1 to 2 hours.
These rods are made in the UK.
A low hydrogen, basic flux coated electrode on a low carbon mild steel core wire with an extruded moisture resistant chemically basic flux which has controlled iron powder addition. The moisture resistant coating gives a very low weld metal hydrogen levels. The electrode recovery rate in respect to the core wire is approx. 120%. Smooth arc, low spatter, easy strike and restrike. The electrode is mainly used for weathering steels containing a similar controlled addition & is claimed to offer a threefold improvement in corrosion resistance compared with plain C, Mn steels. The weld metal also resists preferential corrosion in sea water, particularly in arctic waters high in oxygen & salinity,
& has applications for welding micro alloys & carbon manganese steels in ice breaker vessels & offshore structures. Applications also include architectural structures, bridges & exhaust gas flues. Our Interlocking Shark Tooth Corten Edging arrives unweathered and is available in packs of 10 or 25 in the following dimensions:
Length: 2000mm or 2500mm this is the main section measurement. The interlocking sections are not included in these measurements.
Height (excluding 150mm for the teeth): 100mm, 150mm, 290mm
Each pack will come with 2 end pieces. One side of each piece will have the interlocking section on to attach to your last length in the row, then the other side is a straight edge.
Good for: Lawns, flower beds, gardens, yards, allotments, courtyards, borders, rockeries, raised beds, vegetable patches, herb gardens.
How it's made:
Nickel, chromium and copper are added to steel to create Corten. Originally designed for railway carriages, this is an alloy that's crafted to last. We cut 'sharks' teeth' into our edging to make it easy for you to sink into the ground; now we've added the interlocking function so that creating longer borders is a doddle.

Corten Steel (or weathering steel) is an alloy that naturally forms a rust coating the over the first 9 months or so of it being exposed to the weather. Interestingly, due to the composition of this special alloy, this rust coating forms a protective layer that prevents further rusting. The steel underneath remains unimpaired as the outer layer continues to protect and regenerate as it exposed to water and oxygen.

- The products must be unpacked immediately after delivery so any moisture between the packaging and the product is not sealed. This can cause irregular rust and stains
- The accessories such as smoke flues and rain caps are easy to assemble by sliding them together
- With the accessories it is important to pay attention to the diameter of the smoke flues; type Enok and Stig XL have a diameter of 200mm – all other types have a diameter of 154mm
- Start with firelighters with small pieces of dry wood placed on top
- Only use lamp oil with article DNS (Foc); no bioethanol or such
- Use small pieces of dry wood to slowly heat the fireplace and smoke flue. Once the fire is burning clearly, you can slowly increase the fire (use max. 1,5kg dry wood per time)
- Clean the grill immediately after use and store in a dry environment. If the grill is kept in the fireplace for a few days, it will have the chance to rust. Our grills are tested and SGS certified
- Remove the ash after use and clean the flue pipe once a year
- At the coated fireplaces rust may occur on the welded seams. You can touch this up with the supplied spray with heat-resistant lacquer

We recommend using four pegs for the first strip of edging, then three pegs per additional length of edging laid. Corten steel comes from ‘cor’ –rosion resistance and ‘ten’ -sile strength inherent in steel. Corten steel is a high-strength, weathering steel alloy designed to resist atmospheric corrosion. It develops a stable, self-protecting rust layer on the surface that acts as a barrier to prevent further corrosion to the steel underneath. That rust does not damage the product in any way, but instead protects it from the elements. This makes it a durable, low-maintenance alternative to traditional mild steel. The coating on the steel ages over time and exposure to the elements. It takes around a year to fully develop and will produce runoff when you first install it. Please note this runoff can stain, so be mindful of where you install the Corten steel edging.
