What is weathering steel sheet?
Weathering steel is just like Corten steel, with all the same qualities, but cheaper. This is because Corten is a brand name. Weathering steel sheets offer you the same great properties but at a lower price. When weathering steel is exposed to the elements it slowly reacts with oxygen and moisture in the atmosphere and the exterior develops a distinctive orange coating, known as a patina. This exterior coating protects the internal steel. While the auburn hued coating may look like rust it does not penetrate inside the steel, meaning the metal does not weaken or depreciate.
Weathering steel is the cheaper, smarter choice for your design, landscaping, outdoor or architectural project with its stunning looks and durability, whatever you create will be sure to stand the test of time.
We supply weathering steel panels in a huge variety of thicknesses and sizes and we can cut your weathering steel custom sizes, so you can just order what you need.
How it’s made:
Weathering steel is an alloy, the addition of nickel, copper and chromium at production means that as the steel is exposed to the elements it develops a protective patina. This external layer is a dark orange often desired in architectural projects.
Good for: external cladding, marine projects, architecture, water features, outdoor planters, sculptures, design features, signage.
- Low maintenance
