What our customers say about us
What is galvanised sheeting?
Robust, reliable and rust-resistant, our galvanised steel sheet is just the job when weather-proofing is a must. With its tough coating of zinc carbonate, it’s designed to withstand the most extreme of the elements and last for a very long time. From walls to washing machines, the scope for our best-selling metal is endless. We know that everyone’s need for galvanised steel plate is different, which is why we’re happy to cut yours down to the exact size you need. This free service ensures you have exactly what you need for your project, with absolutely nothing going to waste. Plus, there’s no minimum order, meaning no job’s too small. Good for: Car parts, roofs, inner and outer wall sheeting, sheds, construction parts, buckets, planters, wheelbarrows, drainpipes, tubes, sections, machine-building, domestic appliances, electrical goods, agricultural machinery and many more. Galvanised steel’s properties make it tough enough for most exterior projects. Painting: Galvanised steel looks great when it’s coated in colour, but always use specialist primer and paint. How it’s made: Galvanised sheet steel is made when sheet steel is passed through a bath of red-hot, molten zinc. When oxygen reacts with pure zinc, zinc oxide is formed. Zinc oxide reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate. It might be dull and grey, but what it lacks in lustre, zinc carbonate more than makes up for in performance. Like an excellent outdoor jacket, zinc carbonate is what protects the steel within from the weather, and the reason why galvanised steel sheets are a proven favourite in the great outdoors. Galvanised steel used to be easily recognisable by its trademark star or spangle pattern, formed on the metal’s surface during the treatment process. As smoother surfaces became more popular, spangles shrunk and, in the case of our steel sheet, they are not visible to the naked eye. If you are looking for metal with the traditional spangle pattern, see our big bright spangled galvanised steel. Benefits:- Resistant to rust
- Versatile
- Tough coating
- Great for outdoor projects

What our customers say about us
What is mild steel sheet metal?
The term “mild steel” is used to describe low-carbon steel. While mild steel is still strong and tough, it can be further strengthened by the process of carburising – a heat treatment using a source of carbon. The steel is malleable, weldable and ductile, as well as being cost-effective and relatively easy to form. No wonder it's a popular choice in the construction industry.Where is mild steel used?
Mild steel has many applications that include construction (especially to meet seismic or wind requirements), machine parts and pipelines. As mild steel is difficult to break and easy to form, it is also used in sculptures and outdoor designs (e.g. fences). To prevent corrosion, it is usually galvanised or painted. You probably use or see mild steel products every day in wires, nails, decorations, and many furniture elements. Even road signs are made of low carbon steel! Because of its high amount of iron and ferrite, this type of steel can be magnetic which makes it the perfect choice to create a magnetic board with. Our price promise

£6.10 – £10.99Installing your aged brass sheets
Brass is a soft alloy so needs to be handled with care. Try not to drop or bash the sheet when moving it around otherwise it may become damaged. Aged brass sheets can be installed using screw fixings or adhesive depending on the situation. Where possible, try not to drill holes into the sheet as you may damage the lacquer and leave metal exposed. If you need any help with installation or sizing, contact the team here at Buy Metals Online. We would be only too happy to help!Aged brass
Brass is an alloy made up of copper and zinc. The proportions of which give brass the lustrous finish and wide variety of depths and colours. We take standard brass sheets and accelerate the ageing process to provide its key character. Then we finish with a gloss lacquer to deliver the shine and to stop the ageing process. The gloss lacquer should last many years, but can be worn through using harsh chemicals, repeated washing, excessive heat and poor treatment. Sheets can be protected through careful use and the lacquer reapplied if necessary.Caring for your aged brass sheets
Aged brass sheets should require minimal maintenance depending on where they are installed. If a sheet requires cleaning, use warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Do not use a scouring sponge or chemical cleaning products as this will accelerate the wear of the lacquer. Wipe any spills immediately and wash down with warm soapy water. Avoid contact with other metals to prevent a reaction. Get in touch with Josh, on 07703 567916 or josh@specialtyservices.co.uk, for a no-obligations custom quote. All sheets can be cut to size before dispatch.Aged Brass Sheets

Interestingly, due to the composition of this special alloy, this rust coating forms a protective layer that prevents further rusting. The steel underneath remains unimpaired as the outer layer continues to protect and regenerate as it exposed to water and oxygen. These can also be used in the home. The material absorbs the brunt of the impact which will allow the doors to last much longer. It will also eliminate the need to repair and repaint doors, making the plates cost effective. They also offer a visual benefit as it can be simple to wipe down a kick plate, while getting a scuff from a door can be a nightmare. Please note holes are not pre drilled.Steel Kick Plate

Originally developed for building coal carriages in 1930s America, it is now one of the most stylish and durable metals on the market. Corten steel plate might look like it’s rusty, but thanks to clever manipulation in its processing, the outer oxidisation actually protects the steel from further corrosion, as well as giving it its striking good looks. The grey metal pictured shows our natural/raw Corten sheet when first purchased, whilst the orange-coloured metal shows how it typically looks like after the weathering process, which takes between 3-10 months of exposure to the elements. If you want your Corten ready-weathered, check out our pre-weathered Corten steel. When rust looks good Corten steel sheet (also known as weathering steel) is instantly identifiable thanks to its rich, bright orange tones. Originally developed for building coal carriages in 1930s America, it is now one of the most stylish and durable metals on the market. Corten steel plate might look like it’s rusty, but thanks to clever manipulation in its processing, the outer oxidisation actually protects the steel from further corrosion, as well as making it look very good indeed. There’s no need to paint this one and it just looks better with age, no wonder designers love it. For years, Corten has been the metal of choice for containers and other shipping elements. More recently, though, it’s become the material of choice for many artists, architects and interior designers. We’re proud to supply talented artists and sculptors with Corten for their gorgeous projects, including UK-based Eddie Roberts, who works the metal into stunning creations. As well as art, Corten steel cladding is extremely popular and it is often used for buildings, giving it a tough coating against the elements and an industrial-looking edge. Recently, our weathering steel was used both inside and out for the makeover of The Western, a stylish Brighton bar. We supply our weathering steel panels in a huge variety of thicknesses and sizes and our free cutting service means we can trim it down to the precise size you need, with no minimum order. Just email us for your Corten Steel prices. Whether you’re looking for stunning aesthetics, weather performance or a wonderful mix of both, it delivers. How it’s made: Weathering steel is an alloy, which is what makes it so resistant to the elements. The addition of nickel, copper and chromium at the production stage means that over time, a protective patina will develop on the surface of the metal. Good for: Cladding, containers, marine transportation, bridges, general architecture, interiors, art installations, water features, sculptures, planters and many more. Benefits:- Hard-wearing
- Low maintenance
- Weatherproof

Our customers use these for displaying photographs, children’s artwork, staff notices and important documents. The sheets are 1.0 mm thick. This product isn’t magnetic itself, so it won’t pick up metal objects, however it is the ideal thickness for both children’s magnets, industrial magnets and anything in between. Whether you’re looking to keep your bills in order, display your precious photographs or give your living room an industrial edge, the opportunities for magnetic boards are endless. How it’s made: Galvanised steel is made when steel is fortified with a powerful layer of zinc. The metal is dipped in an extremely hot bath of molten zinc, which causes a chemical reaction, resulting in a protective layer of zinc which makes the finished product supremely tough. Whilst the zinc that’s added to steel in the galvanisation process is not magnetic, the steel itself is. The amount of zinc used is so little that it doesn’t affect the performance of the steel, meaning magnets will stick to it. Good for: Notice boards, photography displays, shop displays, interiors or anywhere else where a surface that attracts magnets is required. Painting: Galvanised steel can be coated in paint, but make sure you use a specialist product and primer. Benefits:- Attracts magnets

£3.67 – £62.76View Details Select optionsWhat is Aluminium Sheet? The Lightweight One Ultra-ductile, rust resistant and super-light, our sheet aluminium is suitable for a multitude of uses. This nonmagnetic, widely recycled metal is perhaps most well-known for its role in drinks cans and other packaging. Thanks to its lightweight properties, though, it also aces aircraft engineering, luggage components, bicycles and auto parts. What’s more, aluminium is incredibly resistant to corrosion, making it a clever choice for windows, roofing and other construction jobs. Aluminium is easily identifiable by its bright, silvery sheen. Just like the other metals we sell, we can provide your sheet aluminium in exactly the size you need, meaning no excess product will go to waste. There’s no minimum order, too, so you can order as much or as little aluminium as you need. Good for: Packaging, drinks cans, foil sheets, cookware, home appliances, signage, storage tanks, trailers, welding, car panels, spacecraft, aerospace engineering, furniture, gutters, awnings, roofing, siding, luggage, bicycle components, ships, military vehicles, armour. How it's made: Get ready for a quick science lesson: the process of making aluminium sheet begins with bauxite, a soil-like substance that’s mined from underground. Clay is washed off the bauxite, which then goes through a grinding machine, before being plunged into a hot bath of caustic soda and lime. The caustic soda and lime refine the bauxite, extracting aluminium oxide. The aluminium oxide is filtered and heated, and by now takes the form of white powder. Next, electricity and carbon are combined with the aluminium oxide to create aluminium; an electrical current is passed between a negative carbon cathode and a positive carbon anode. The anode and the oxygen in the aluminium oxide react, producing carbon dioxide. This process creates liquid aluminium, which is moulded into ingots ready to be rolled out into aluminium sheets at the factory. Benefits:- Low density
- Versatile
- Corrosion-resistant
- Recyclable
