Metal kick plates from Buy Metal Online are designed to protect doors in high-traffic areas. They provide a tough, resistant surface where feet, trolleys, dollies and carts can open doors without marking or damaging them.
Metal kick plates attach to the bottom of doors, where you would kick, push or bang a door open when you’re working quickly or carrying loads.
It’s a small but important way to protect the building and its doors from damage.
Key qualities of metal kick plates
Metal kick plates are manufactured to a high standard from a range of different metals including aluminium and steel. Our metal kick plates are strong and durable with key qualities including:-
- Protection: Metal kick plates are affixed to the bottom of any door to protect it from impact. Ideal in warehouses, factories, schools, hospitals and anywhere doors often get marked or damaged.
-
- Flexible: Metal kick plates can be cut to any size or shape and be used for protective or decorative purposes.
-
- Low maintenance: Screw or glue in place, keep clean and easily wipe off or polish out any marks or scratches. They are simple and very low maintenance.
- Cost-effective: Make doors last longer with a simple metal sheet and keep them looking good at the same time.
How to use metal kick plates
Metal kick plates can be attached to the bottom of a door to enable hands-free opening with feet or allow doors to be opened with material handling equipment like dollies and trolleys. These are ideal for businesses or institutions where doors tend to get marked or damaged. They are also suitable for use in the home. The metal plates absorb the brunt of the impact, extending the lifespan of your doors and reducing the need for repairs or repainting. These kick plates are also easy to clean compared to challenging scuffs, scratches or dents in doors. All you need to do is prepare the surface of the door, drill holes in the kick plate where required and screw it into place. You can also bond them onto the door with a strong adhesive if you prefer.Metal kick plates at Buy Metal Online

Important Notes
After accelerating the natural ageing and antiquing process of our copper sheets we typically finish our work using a gloss lacquer. Not only does this create a brilliant finish but it prevents further ageing of the metal therefore preserving the look and design created. Should the lacquer come off through cleaning, washing, excess heat etc the patina will change and continue to develop. As ‘live’ metals, direct contact with acidic liquids like vinegar, sauce, and fruit juices, will accelerate this reaction and the look of the product will change. Our gloss lacquered products are ideal when used for decorative and design purposes. In working environments - where contact, usage, and cleaning requirements are high - there is a probability that the gloss lacquer applied will wear off and the product will continue to change from its original look. As such our lacquered products may not be suitable for splashbacks that are exposed to high temperatures and/or steam. Should you require an aged copper product for a heavy usage purpose please contact our team to discuss the best options for you.Caring for your aged copper
Cleaning: On lacquered finished products use warm soapy water only with microfibre cloths. Do not use acidic or alkaline based products. Heat: Always use mats when setting down hot plates and cups. Spills: Clean up all spills immediately with warm and soapy water. Acidic or Akaline spills may affect the patina. Ferrous metals: some of these can cause a reaction on copper. Please avoid direct contact with items such as some candle sticks and cast iron pans etc.* Note on Lacquered products
Lacquer is essentially a coating of paint and should be treated and cleaned as such. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaning items as this with wear away the lacquer and chase the metal to continue to age and change. For heavy use products such as bar and table tops, always:- 1. Clean gently with warm and soapy water
- 2. Use heat mats when required
- 3. Avoid scratching
- 4. Clean spills immediately
- 5. Re-lacquer if required

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to Corten steel, weathering steel could be perfect for your project. Weathering steel possesses the same great properties as Corten steel, but as it doesn't carry the brand name, it costs less. Just like Corten, weathering steel starts out blue-grey in colour and weathers to a rust-coloured finish. The orange patina protects the metal from corrosion and takes 6-9 months to develop.
Please note: these sheets will arrive in their natural form, ready to weather over a period of 6-9 months. If you need your steel to arrive with the orange coating already in place, see our pre-weathered Corten steel.
When weathering steel is exposed to the elements, it reacts with oxygen and moisture in the atmosphere, a process called oxidisation. When oxidisation occurs, the metal develops a distinctive orange coating, known as a patina. This exterior coating protects the internal steel. While the auburn-hue might look like rust, it doesn't penetrate the steel, meaning the metal does not weaken or depreciate. With its good looks and lasting durability, weathering steel is a big hit with designers.
Weathering steel is a more affordable choice than Corten steel for a broad range of projects, including landscaping, art and architecture
We supply weathering steel panels in a huge variety of thicknesses and sizes and we can cut it to custom sizes, so you can just order what you need.
⚠️ Important Note on 5mm & 6mm Weathering Steel Sheets
For 5mm & 6mm sheets, we are unable to cut these using our onsite guillotines due to the material’s strength. Instead, they must be laser cut, which requires a 10mm border around the edges. Because of this, offcuts are not always possible. Please bear this in mind when requesting custom sizes.
How it’s made:
Weathering steel is an alloy; the addition of nickel, copper and chromium at production means that as the steel is exposed to the elements it develops its protective patina.
Good for: External cladding, marine projects, architecture, water features, outdoor planters, sculptures, design features, signage.
Benefits:
- Durable
- Low maintenance
- Weather-resistant
- Visually pleasing

Rusted Hot-rolled Steel
A rustic patina
Our rusted hot-rolled steel makes an excellent alternative to the ever-popular Corten steel. The industrial aesthetic continues to be extremely popular in art, design and architecture, and as a result, demand for our Corten product is high. We have created a more affordable alternative to this much-loved product by adding a layer of decorative rust to the outer surface of our hot-rolled steel sheet. This means you get all the malleability and durability of hot-rolled steel, with the added benefit of a stylish orange hue. It’s worth bearing in mind that the rust effect is less uniform than that of Corten, but if you’re looking for a genuine patina, the overall effect of this finish is ideal. Our hot-rolled rusted steel is a wonderful choice for art and sculpture, where pliability is a must, but so are good looks. As with all our mild steel metals, it’s available in a huge choice of ready-cut sizes, and we can also cut it down to precisely the size you need for your project, however small, for free. There’s no minimum order, either, so whatever your project, we’ll supply you with just what you need.
Good for:
Landscaping, sculpture, art, architecture, garden accessories, blacksmithing, interior and exterior design, decorative panelling, architecture, cladding and many more.
How it’s made:
At the steel mill, ingots of mild steel are heated to a scorching 1000 degrees Celsius, then passed through two huge rollers to flatten them out into sheets. Rolling the steel out at such a high temperature makes it more malleable in the future than that which has been cold-rolled. At Buy Metal Online, we then use a chemical bath to rust the hot-rolled steel sheets, giving it the orangey hue that makes it stand out and look great.
Benefits:
- An affordable alternative to Corten
- Very malleable
- Has a distinctive, textured rust effect
- Extremely versatile
