What our customers say about us
What is copper metal sheet?
The conductor
Instantly recognisable by its unique, orangey hue, copper sheet is a distinctive, malleable metal that’s up to hundreds of jobs. One of the basic chemical elements (CU in case you’ve forgotten your Periodic Table), it’s been popular for millennia. Our copper sheet plate comes in a range of thicknesses and we can cut it to size, supplying you with just the amount you need. Traditionally, copper’s long list of pluses have made it a firm favourite in industry and construction: after all, it’s soft, brilliant at conducting heat and electricity, resistant to corrosion, and even has antibacterial properties. More recently, though, the metal has come into high demand by architects and interior designers simply because it looks great. Whether you’re looking for form of function, there are limitless uses for copper sheet. UK based, we supply sheet metal to clients all over the country. When you buy copper sheet from us, there’s no minimum order. Just select the amount you need from the box above, or call us to take advantage of our free cutting service.
How is it made?
Copper ore is mined from deep underground, then taken away to be cleaned, crushed and milled. It then undergoes several chemical processes and put into an electro-refining tank for purification, before it is eventually melted down and cast into ingots, rods, or cakes. To make copper sheet, these chunks of copper are then rolled out flat.
Benefits
- Malleable
- Conducts heat
- Conducts electricity
- Aesthetically stylish
Random fact:
Apart from gold, copper is the only metal on the Periodic Table that isn’t silver or grey in colour.

Steel Checker Plate FAQs
What is the difference between a steel chequered plate and a steel plate?
A steel chequered plate features a raised pattern of diamonds or linear strips designed for grip, while a standard steel plate is flat without a pattern or texture. The checker pattern improves safety and slip resistance. What is the purpose of a steel checker plate?
The primary purpose of a steel chequer plate is to add slip resistance. The raised pattern offers tread and increases traction, making it ideal for areas prone to slips, spills or moisture, helping prevent accidents. It’s commonly used for surfaces where grip is crucial, like flooring, ramps, stair treads, and vehicle decks. What thickness does a steel checker plate come in?
At Buy Metal Online, we offer steel chequer plates in 3mm and 4.5mm thicknesses. Sheets come in a variety of sizes and can be custom-cut to your requirements.Does a steel chequer plate rust?
Yes, untreated mild steel checker plates can rust over time when exposed to moisture. For outdoor use or in damp environments, consider painting, galvanising or applying a protective coating or sealant to prolong its lifespan. Is a steel checker plate stronger than a flat sheet?
The raised pattern adds rigidity and increases load-bearing capacity, making it more hard-wearing and durable under foot or load than a flat sheet of the same thickness. However, both share similar material strengths. Can you paint a steel checker plate?
Absolutely. Your steel chequer plate can be primed and painted with standard metal paints. Applying anti-slip paint on top can also enhance grip and prolong the lifespan of the plate.Steel Checker Plate
