Stainless Steel Hexagon Bar 316/316L is a hexagonal shaped 316/316L Stainless Steel Alloy bar.
316 Stainless Steel Alloy is a standard molybdenum-bearing grade, the second most commonly sought after grade next to grade 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels.
The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance in chloride environments.
Grade 316L (L= low carbon) ) is the same as 316 except it has an extra-low-carbon analysis, the advantage of which is that it precludes any harmful precipitation in the 800º F to 1500º F range that might result from welding heavier sections. Therefore 316L is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components.
Typically there is no price difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel.

If you want to read what the manufacturer says then read below but if you want the overview then this bit is for you. The MacTrode E6818-W2 rod is a low hydrogen MMA rod that is designed specifically for weathering steels such as Corten.
Because of the above if you get these rods damp and require to rebake them then it does require a higher heat for a slightly longer than normal time. 300 to 350 degrees C for 1 to 2 hours.
These rods are made in the UK.
A low hydrogen, basic flux coated electrode on a low carbon mild steel core wire with an extruded moisture resistant chemically basic flux which has controlled iron powder addition. The moisture resistant coating gives a very low weld metal hydrogen levels. The electrode recovery rate in respect to the core wire is approx. 120%. Smooth arc, low spatter, easy strike and restrike. The electrode is mainly used for weathering steels containing a similar controlled addition & is claimed to offer a threefold improvement in corrosion resistance compared with plain C, Mn steels. The weld metal also resists preferential corrosion in sea water, particularly in arctic waters high in oxygen & salinity,
& has applications for welding micro alloys & carbon manganese steels in ice breaker vessels & offshore structures. Applications also include architectural structures, bridges & exhaust gas flues. Materials to be welded include Corten A, B1 (b. steel, US Steels) and other proprietary designations. BS4360 Grade WR50A to WR50C, ASTM A588 Grades A, B, C, K. Din 1.8960, 1.8961, 1.8963.

Stainless Steel Plate
Everything including the kitchen sink As the name suggests, this long-term favourite of the metal world is resistant to rusting, corrosion and (you guessed it) staining. It gained its title around the time it was invented, at the beginning of the 20th century. Back then, one of the most common uses for the metal was the production of cutlery, where hygiene was (and still is) obviously a must. These days, stainless steel is used for all manner of varying needs, but the name has stood the test of time (and it is still the most popular metal for making cutlery). Unlike the carbon steel (also known as mild steel) used as a basis for many metals, stainless steel has a minimum of 10.5% of chromium content by mass – and often contains up to 20%. Our stainless steel sheeting comes in a huge range of thicknesses to suit your project and we offer two types: 304 and 316 stainless steel. Prices are competitive and we have lots of options. Choose the size you need, or take advantage of our free cutting service and have it trimmed down to precisely the amount that’s right for you. There’s also a choice of two finishes: dull polished or mill finished. Mill finished steel doesn’t have the “brushed” effect that’s commonly associated with this type of metal. If that’s what you’re looking for, select dull polished stainless steel sheet from the box above; this metal has been specially treated to give it the fine-line, satin-textured pattern that can often be seen on jewellery, domestic appliances and watches. Good for: Industrial equipment, hardware, catering machinery and furniture, food processing, cookware, cutlery, crockery, household uses, surgical instruments, construction materials, tools, shipbuilding, manufacturing and many more. Brushed stainless steel plate (or dull-polished) is popular for household sockets, sink splash-backs and other stylish features. How it’s made: Steel is one of the most refined metals that can be taken from iron. It’s also 100% recyclable; experts reckon that in the future, the vast majority of the steel products we use will be manufactured from recycled steel items. Stainless steel is an alloy, which is a mixture of more than one metal. It is blended with at least 10.5% chromium (also known as chrome), which gives it tough protection against oxidisation (rust). What our customers say about us: “A great range of products.” –Marc, Trustpilot “Excellent advice followed by excellent service.” – Fiona, Trustpilot Random Fact: The record for the largest stainless steel cooking spoon was set in Marktoberdorf, Germany in 2006. Measuring in at a lengthy 10.01 metres, the spoon was manufactured by the Rösle GmbH & Co. KG.You might also be interested in...

What is aluminium chequered plate?
Safety first... Similar in appearance to steel chequer plate, diamond plate aluminium offers a non-slip surface where you need safety underfoot. More lightweight than steel tread plate, it can be easily secured to existing flooring, adding a layer of texture that’s got plenty of grip and reducing the risk of slipping. The distinctive 5-bar pattern on diamond plate makes it sought after not just for performance, but for style, too: our aluminium treadplate is often used in interior design and car modification, as well as in industry. It comes in three thicknesses and a wide choice of sizes. What’s more, our free cutting service means we can trim your diamond plate sheets down to precisely the amount you need, with no minimum order. Good for: Van flooring, kick-plates, industrial-style decor, vehicle modification, stairways, walkways, lifts, factory floors, ramps, freezers, trench covers, walls and more. How it’s made: At the factory, aluminium is passed through two giant rollers, one which is smooth and one which is marked with a raised pattern, the well-known diamond or 5-bar, which gives this material its name. This process means that the metal sheets are embossed with diamonds or bars on one side and smooth and flat on the other, producing diamond plate aluminium that’s ready to be walked on. What is Aluminium Sheet?
The Lightweight One
Ultra-ductile, rust resistant and super-light, our sheet aluminium is suitable for a multitude of uses. This nonmagnetic, widely recycled metal is perhaps most well-known for its role in drinks cans and other packaging. Thanks to its lightweight properties, though, it also aces aircraft engineering, luggage components, bicycles and auto parts. What’s more, aluminium is incredibly resistant to corrosion, making it a clever choice for windows, roofing and other construction jobs. Aluminium is easily identifiable by its bright, silvery sheen. Just like the other metals we sell, we can provide your sheet aluminium in exactly the size you need, meaning no excess product will go to waste. There’s no minimum order, too, so you can order as much or as little aluminium as you need.
Thicknesses: 0.9mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm thick sheet.
Good for:
Packaging, drinks cans, foil sheets, cookware, home appliances, signage, storage tanks, trailers, welding, car panels, spacecraft, aerospace engineering, furniture, gutters, awnings, roofing, siding, luggage, bicycle components, ships, military vehicles, armour.
How it's made:
Get ready for a quick science lesson: the process of making aluminium sheet begins with bauxite, a soil-like substance that’s mined from underground. Clay is washed off the bauxite, which then goes through a grinding machine, before being plunged into a hot bath of caustic soda and lime. The caustic soda and lime refine the bauxite, extracting aluminium oxide. The aluminium oxide is filtered and heated, and by now takes the form of white powder. Next, electricity and carbon are combined with the aluminium oxide to create aluminium; an electrical current is passed between a negative carbon cathode and a positive carbon anode. The anode and the oxygen in the aluminium oxide react, producing carbon dioxide. This process creates liquid aluminium, which is moulded into ingots ready to be rolled out into aluminium sheets at the factory.
Benefits:
- Low density
- Versatile
- Corrosion-resistant
- Recyclable

What are Galvanised Flashings?
Sometimes referred to as metal roofing flashings, roof flashings, or edge trims, galvanised steel flashings are typically used to finish the ends and corners of roofing sheets to protect a building against water ingress. Galvanised flashings are specially designed metal strips that seal roof edges, corners, joints, and other vulnerable areas of a building. By sealing building ends and diverting water away from these critical points, metal flashings help prevent leaks, dampness, and weather-related damage. Made from galvanised steel, these flashings are coated with a layer of zinc that protects the metal beneath from rust and corrosion. This protective layer ensures long-lasting durability, even in harsh weather conditions. Galvanised flashings are commonly used in roofing, cladding, and drainage systems, providing essential reinforcement to maintain the integrity of a structure. Whether for new builds or renovation projects, galvanised flashings are vital for maintaining the integrity of both residential and commercial properties.Key Qualities of Galvanised Flashings

What is stucco aluminium sheet?
Textured excellence
Lightweight, versatile and resistant to corrosion, aluminium sheet has already got a lot going for it. Add in a “pebbled” finish and you’ve got a sheet metal that’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical. This is incredibly corrosive-resistant Grade 1050A alloy aluminium, and it’s been embossed with a textured pattern that gives it an attractive look. This finish diffuses light and stops it from reflecting off the surface of the metal, so you get all the strengths of aluminium, without the glare. As the surface is already dull, it ages far better than smooth aluminium. You might recognise the “orange peel” stucco pattern from travel trunks and vanity cases, and it’s also used extensively in interior décor. Available in a choice of two thicknesses (0.9mm and 1.2mm), our stucco aluminium sheet makes smart, stylish cladding and panelling, and is often used in modern kitchens and bathrooms. Just like all Buy Metal Online sheet metals, we’ll cut your stucco aluminium sheet down to size for free, meaning you get exactly the amount you need. And with no minimum order, no job is too small.
Good for: Kitchens, bathrooms, splashbacks, luggage, panelling, cladding, roofing, construction, interior design, art, installations, displays, refrigeration, insulation, air conditioning.
How it's made:
Aluminium is made when aluminium ore (bauxite) is mined from the earth and refined in a bath of lime and caustic soda. This allows the extraction of aluminium oxide, which is filtered, heated and combined with electricity and carbon to form liquid aluminium. The liquid aluminium is moulded into ingots then rolled out into sheets, which, in the case of stucco aluminium sheet, are then embossed with the ‘pebbly’ pattern.
Benefits:
- Very strong
- Corrosion-resistant
- Non-reflective
- Recyclable

What is Bright Galvanised Steel Sheet?
Robust, reliable and rust-resistant, our bright galvanised steel sheet is just the job when weather-proofing is a must. With its tough coating of zinc carbonate, it’s designed to withstand the most extreme of the elements and last for a very long time. From walls to washing machines, the scope for our best-selling metal is endless. We know that everyone’s need for galvanised steel plate is different, which is why we’re happy to cut yours down to the exact size you need. This free service ensures you have exactly what you need for your project, with absolutely nothing going to waste. Plus, there’s no minimum order, meaning no job’s too small.
Good for: Car parts, roofs, inner and outer wall sheeting, sheds, construction parts, buckets, planters, wheelbarrows, drainpipes, tubes, sections, machine-building, domestic appliances, electrical goods, agricultural machinery and many more. Galvanised steel’s properties make it tough enough for most exterior projects.
Painting: Galvanised steel looks great when it’s coated in colour, but always use specialist primer and paint.
How it’s made: Galvanised sheet steel is made when sheet steel is passed through a bath of red-hot, molten zinc. When oxygen reacts with pure zinc, zinc oxide is formed. Zinc oxide reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate. It might be dull and grey, but what it lacks in lustre, zinc carbonate more than makes up for in performance. Like an excellent outdoor jacket, zinc carbonate is what protects the steel within from the weather, and the reason why galvanised steel sheets are a proven favourite in the great outdoors. Galvanised steel used to be easily recognisable by its trademark star or spangle pattern, formed on the metal’s surface during the treatment process. As smoother surfaces became more popular, spangles shrunk and, in the case of our steel sheet, they are not visible to the naked eye. Our Bright Galv is very shiny
Benefits:
- Resistant to rust
- Versatile
- Tough coating
- Great for outdoor projects
