What our customers say about us
Practical uses:
Galvanised steel is a versatile material with a wide range of applications, showcasing its durability and adaptability in numerous industries. From automotive components to roofing, inner and outer wall sheeting, sheds, and construction parts, galvanised steel proves its qualities. It also finds utility in making sturdy buckets, planters, wheelbarrows, and drainpipes, while its use extends to tubes, sections, and machine-building applications. The material's resilience makes it a preferred choice for domestic appliances, electrical goods, and agricultural machinery as well, demonstrating its ability to withstand the demands of both indoor and outdoor environments. It can also be painted to give it colour, but preparation is key and a specialist primer and metal paint should be used when doing so.How it's made
The production process involves passing sheet steel through a bath of red-hot, molten zinc. This results in the formation of zinc oxide when oxygen reacts with pure zinc. The zinc oxide then reacts with carbon dioxide to produce zinc carbonate. This newly formed coating serves as the protective layer, shielding the steel from the weather. In the past, galvanised steel could be recognised by its distinctive star or spangle pattern, a result of the treatment process on the metal's surface. As contemporary tastes lean towards smoother surfaces over the years, the spangles have become invisible to the naked eye on our galvanised steel sheets. Random fact: The process of galvanisation is named after Luigi Galvani, the Italian chemist who discovered electromagnetism in 1781 during an experiment on frogs’ legs. Our service

Pickled and Oiled Hot Rolled Steel Sheets
The smoother steel
Rolling, pickling and oiling might all sound like they’re something to do with food, but before you get hungry, remember that this is a metal website and in this case we’re talking about steel (sorry!) When metal goes through any hot process, it can be left with a residue or scaling on its surface, which, when exposed to moisture, can turn to rust. This can be avoided by giving the steel a treatment to which smoothes things over, called pickling. Afterwards, the material is rinsed before a protective layer of oil blocks out the elements and gives this metal its flawless looks and strong performance. It’s perfect if your project requires a metal with a totally blemish-free surface: think painting, powder-coating and furnishings. As with all our products, hot rolled pickled and oiled steel sheet (also known as oiled steel sheet and pickled steel sheet) can be trimmed to the precise size you need, with no minimum order. Our hot rolled steel prices are highly competitive; just select what you need in the boxes above, or call us to take advantage of our free cutting service.
Good for: Radiators, metal furniture, domestic appliances, powder-coating, painting ...this oiled steel is perfect for any other situation in which a smooth surface is paramount.
How it’s made:
The process of making hot rolled steel leads to oxidisation, meaning a layer of scale, impurities and debris can be left behind. In order to prevent rust from forming on the surface of the metal when it is exposed to the air, this scale needs to go. Pickling takes care of this: by dipping the steel sheet into exactly the right acid, the oxide is dissolved and the metal is de-scaled. The ‘scale jacket’ that’s removed is a very thin layer, usually a tiny fraction of a centimetre thick, but it makes all the difference to the finished product’s appearance: metal with scale has a grey, dull appearance, whereas that which has been pickled comes out with a gleaming sheen. Once the scale is gone, pickled steel is rinsed, before being given an extra layer of protection from the elements in the form of an oil barrier.
Benefits:
- Ultra-smooth surface
- Protection from the elements
- Totally de-scaled
- Versatile

Blackened Hot Rolled Steel Sheet
Please note thickness ranging from 1.5mm-2.5mm are grade DD11 - 3mm-6mm are S275 - Please note this product comes with a lead time up to 7-10 working days from order and is not applicable for express shipping services.
Brilliantly Versatile
Looking for a metal that’s easy to shape? This is the one. A big favourite with blacksmiths, our hot rolled mild steel sheet is ideal for when pliability is key. Of course, in its normal state, it's strong stuff, but the process used to form it means it becomes more malleable when hot, making it perfect for forging. At the steel mill, ultra-heated carbon steel (often known as plain or mild steel) is passed through two heavy duty rollers, which flatten it into sheets. Imagine dough being squeezed through two giant rolling pins and you’ve got the right idea. The finished product is a ductile yet sturdy metal that’s up to countless jobs. Just like our other products, our hot rolled steel sheet comes in a wide variety of thicknesses and sizes to suit your project. There’s no minimum order and we can cut master sizes down to precisely the dimensions you need, so that nothing goes to waste.
Good for: Construction, automotive parts, agricultural equipment, energy provision, industry strip, lifting, blacksmithing, manufacturing, excavating, pipes, railway and train carriage components and more.
How it's made: Ingots or slabs of steel are heated to almost 1000ºC (this scorching heat ensures it's over the all-important recrystallisation temperature) before being passed through twin heavy rollers in the steel mill. When the metal is as hot as this, it can be easily manipulated into the shape and size required. One of the reasons why hot rolled steel is in demand is that it can be made quickly and in larger sized sheets than other metals. As long as the temperature of the metal at the time of rolling is above its recrystallisation temperature, it is classed as hot rolling (when the process happens at room temperature, it’s called cold rolling or cold reducing, and the finished product is less malleable.) Hot rolled steel is often pickled after the rolling process to remove any surface scale; see our hot rolled pickled and oiled steel sheet if you’re looking for hot rolled plate with a smoother finish.
Benefits:
- Malleable
- Versatile
- Affordable
- Reliable

What is IZ?
A dream for welding and painting
Iron Zinc (IZ), gets its name from the iron zinc alloy it is coated with. Even though it has the same centre as galvanised, the different coating gives it a whole new bunch of properties and allows it to be specialised for different applications. IZ or galvanneal as it is sometimes referred to, provides a matte and consistent grey coloured finish and is more brittle and harder than galvanised. Its welding, bending and forming ability make it a favourite within the car and door manufacturing industries, and it's also loved for being an excellent, scratch-resistant base for paint. The IZ coating, also known as a galvannealled coating, is different to others because of its 10% iron content. That little iron content increases its resistance to corrosion and combats corrosion of the steel underneath, making the entire sheet last even longer than standard galvanised steel. Don’t forget we also cut to any size, so whatever size you require, we’ve got it covered.
Good for:
Creating high quality painted products, car parts, spot welding, welding, forming, security doors and many more. Thanks to its welding and painting properties, iron zinc’s most common usage is for car parts.
How it’s Made:
IZ (Iron Zinc) is created when steel is immersed in a bath full of zinc until an alloy coating between the zinc and steel forms. After being removed from the bath, gas knives are used to wipe away the excess coating, and this is how different thicknesses are made; the coating is wiped down until the required thickness is met. Once coated in molten zinc and at the right thickness, the steel is taken to a furnace, heated between 1000-1500°F, and kept there until the molten zinc becomes fully alloyed with the iron from the steel. The outcome is the extremely tough IZ steel, coated with an alloy of zinc and 10% iron.
Benefits:
- Strong
- Perfect for high quality painted products
- Extremely resistant to corrosion & scratches
- Great for welding applications

Magnetic Boards & Magnetic Galvanised Steel Sheet
Noticeably useful
Our galvanised steel is perfect for notice boards, crafts and DIY projects. This magnetic board comes in a huge range of sizes, as it’s made from galvanised steel, it is equipped to handle all the weather elements making it a great for both indoor and outdoor projects.
Thinking of installing a notice board at home or in the office? Then our galvanised magnetic notice boards are perfect for you. Our customers use these for displaying photographs, children’s artwork, staff notices and important documents. The sheets are 1.0 mm thick. This product isn’t magnetic itself, so it won’t pick up metal objects, however it is the ideal thickness for both children’s magnets, industrial magnets and anything in between. Whether you’re looking to keep your bills in order, display your precious photographs or give your living room an industrial edge, the opportunities for magnetic boards are endless.
If you can’t see the size you’re looking for in the box above, just let us know; we’re always happy to cut to cut metal to size – and there’s no minimum order, so your magnetic notice board can be delivered just the size you want.
How it’s made: Galvanised steel is made when steel is fortified with a powerful layer of zinc. The metal is dipped in an extremely hot bath of molten zinc, which causes a chemical reaction, resulting in a protective layer of zinc which makes the finished product supremely tough. Whilst the zinc that’s added to steel in the galvanisation process is not magnetic, the steel itself is. The amount of zinc used is so little that it doesn’t affect the performance of the steel, meaning magnets will stick to it.
Good for: Notice boards, photography displays, shop displays, interiors or anywhere else where a surface that attracts magnets is required.
Painting: Galvanised steel can be coated in paint, but make sure you use a specialist product and primer.
Benefits:
- Attracts magnets
- Huge range of sizes available
- Free cutting service
- Sturdy and long-lasting
