What is stucco aluminium sheet?
Textured excellence
Lightweight, versatile and resistant to corrosion, aluminium sheet has already got a lot going for it. Add in a “pebbled” finish and you’ve got a sheet metal that’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical. This is incredibly corrosive-resistant Grade 1050A alloy aluminium, and it’s been embossed with a textured pattern that gives it an attractive look. This finish diffuses light and stops it from reflecting off the surface of the metal, so you get all the strengths of aluminium, without the glare. As the surface is already dull, it ages far better than smooth aluminium. You might recognise the “orange peel” stucco pattern from travel trunks and vanity cases, and it’s also used extensively in interior décor. Available in a choice of two thicknesses (0.9mm and 1.2mm), our stucco aluminium sheet makes smart, stylish cladding and panelling, and is often used in modern kitchens and bathrooms. Just like all Buy Metal Online sheet metals, we’ll cut your stucco aluminium sheet down to size for free, meaning you get exactly the amount you need. And with no minimum order, no job is too small.
Good for: Kitchens, bathrooms, splashbacks, luggage, panelling, cladding, roofing, construction, interior design, art, installations, displays, refrigeration, insulation, air conditioning.
How it's made:
Aluminium is made when aluminium ore (bauxite) is mined from the earth and refined in a bath of lime and caustic soda. This allows the extraction of aluminium oxide, which is filtered, heated and combined with electricity and carbon to form liquid aluminium. The liquid aluminium is moulded into ingots then rolled out into sheets, which, in the case of stucco aluminium sheet, are then embossed with the ‘pebbly’ pattern.
Benefits:
- Very strong
- Corrosion-resistant
- Non-reflective
- Recyclable

Corten steel sheet (also known as weathering steel) is instantly identifiable thanks to its rich, bright orange tones. Originally developed for building coal carriages in 1930s America, it is now one of the most stylish and durable metals on the market. Corten steel plate might look like it’s rusty, but thanks to clever manipulation in its processing, the outer oxidisation actually protects the steel from further corrosion, as well as giving it its striking good looks.
The grey metal pictured shows our natural/raw Corten sheet when first purchased, whilst the orange-coloured metal shows how it typically looks like after the weathering process, which takes between 3-10 months of exposure to the elements.
If you want your Corten ready-weathered, check out our pre-weathered Corten steel.
Thicknesses: 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm.
⚠️ Important Note on 5mm & 6mm Corten Steel Sheets
For 5mm & 6mm sheets, we are unable to cut these using our onsite guillotines due to the material’s strength. Instead, they must be laser cut, which requires a 10mm border around the edges. Because of this, offcuts are not always possible. Please bear this in mind when requesting custom sizes.
When rust looks good
Corten steel sheet (also known as weathering steel) is instantly identifiable thanks to its rich, bright orange tones. Originally developed for building coal carriages in 1930s America, it is now one of the most stylish and durable metals on the market. Corten steel plate might look like it’s rusty, but thanks to clever manipulation in its processing, the outer oxidisation actually protects the steel from further corrosion, as well as making it look very good indeed. There’s no need to paint this one and it just looks better with age, no wonder designers love it. For years, Corten has been the metal of choice for containers and other shipping elements. More recently, though, it’s become the material of choice for many artists, architects and interior designers. We’re proud to supply talented artists and sculptors with Corten for their gorgeous projects, including UK-based Eddie Roberts, who works the metal into stunning creations. As well as art, Corten steel cladding is extremely popular and it is often used for buildings, giving it a tough coating against the elements and an industrial-looking edge. Recently, our weathering steel was used both inside and out for the makeover of The Western, a stylish Brighton bar. We supply our weathering steel panels in a huge variety of thicknesses and sizes and our free cutting service means we can trim it down to the precise size you need, with no minimum order. Just email us for your Corten Steel prices. Whether you’re looking for stunning aesthetics, weather performance or a wonderful mix of both, it delivers.
How it’s made:
Weathering steel is an alloy, which is what makes it so resistant to the elements. The addition of nickel, copper and chromium at the production stage means that over time, a protective patina will develop on the surface of the metal.
Good for:
Cladding, containers, marine transportation, bridges, general architecture, interiors, art installations, water features, sculptures, planters and many more.
Benefits:
- Hard-wearing
- Low maintenance
- Weatherproof
- Striking looks

Cold Rolled Steel Sheet
Strong Stuff
Hardy, versatile and forever popular, our cold reduced steel sheet is brimming with benefits. Its name comes from the way it is processed down at the steel mill; it is flattened at room temperature, which is positively freezing when compared to the normally-scorching heat used in metal production. Scroll down if you want to find out the science behind this, but all you need to know for now is that the cold-rolling technique produces a steel sheet metal that’s incredibly strong, smooth and slim. Far less ductile than its hot-rolled relative, cold-reduced mild steel sheet makes a brilliant base for enamelling and coating and is a great choice for building, construction and a whole lot more. All our metals come in a huge selection of thicknesses and master sizes and can be trimmed to exactly the size you want, ensuring nothing goes to waste. What’s more, there’s never a minimum order charge, so however much (or little) cold rolled steel sheet you need, we can provide your perfect amount.
Good for: automotive components, body panels, construction parts, building, sections and tubes boilers, drums, bathtubs, radiators, domestic appliances, furniture, organic coating, powder coating, electrical goods and many more.
How it’s made: At the mill, mild steel sheet (sometimes known as carbon steel or plain steel) is passed through two giant cylinders, which flatten it into shape like an enormous pancake. It’s a similar process to the way our hot rolled steel sheet is made, but the difference is in the temperature. Although the word ‘cold’ makes the process sound rather chilly, it actually happens at room temperature. The key is in the fact that the steel is processed when it’s below its recrystallisation temperature; the cold rolled steel sheets come out smoother, thinner, less malleable and very strong.
Benefits:
- Strong
- Smooth
- Thinner
- Versatile

Steel Checker Plate FAQs
What is the difference between a steel chequered plate and a steel plate?
A steel chequered plate features a raised pattern of diamonds or linear strips designed for grip, while a standard steel plate is flat without a pattern or texture. The checker pattern improves safety and slip resistance. What is the purpose of a steel checker plate?
The primary purpose of a steel chequer plate is to add slip resistance. The raised pattern offers tread and increases traction, making it ideal for areas prone to slips, spills or moisture, helping prevent accidents. It’s commonly used for surfaces where grip is crucial, like flooring, ramps, stair treads, and vehicle decks. What thickness does a steel checker plate come in?
At Buy Metal Online, we offer steel chequer plates in 3mm and 4.5mm thicknesses. Sheets come in a variety of sizes and can be custom-cut to your requirements.Does a steel chequer plate rust?
Yes, untreated mild steel checker plates can rust over time when exposed to moisture. For outdoor use or in damp environments, consider painting, galvanising or applying a protective coating or sealant to prolong its lifespan. Is a steel checker plate stronger than a flat sheet?
The raised pattern adds rigidity and increases load-bearing capacity, making it more hard-wearing and durable under foot or load than a flat sheet of the same thickness. However, both share similar material strengths. Can you paint a steel checker plate?
Absolutely. Your steel chequer plate can be primed and painted with standard metal paints. Applying anti-slip paint on top can also enhance grip and prolong the lifespan of the plate.Steel Checker Plate
