How will my Corten steel pond weather?

Your Corten steel pond will typically arrive in a raw, blue-grey state and will gradually change to a textured burnt-orange hue as it weathers with exposure to the elements. The speed of this process depends on the climate, but most items are fully weathered within 9 months. Here’s what to expect:

In most cases, your Corten steel pond will arrive un-rusted. It may have a slight patina or dark oily residue, which is completely normal.
As weathering begins, the residue breaks down and the rusty colour will gradually start to appear. During this time, any run-off may stain stone or concrete surfaces, so choose your pond’s position with care.
After weathering (around 6-9 months), your metal pond should be almost entirely rust-coloured. Run-off may still occur but it will be minimal.

Please note: Corten products can arrive at any stage of weathering. We cannot guarantee what level they will be or even if multiple items ordered at the same time will all be at the same level. Unweathered areas of your pond will be the colour of freshly manufactured steel, with a dark oily coating.
