Is this Corten steel edging flexible?
Yes, our Corten steel edging is designed to be flexible and adaptable. The strips can be bent manually or with tools to create smooth curves and shapes, making them perfect for circular beds and borders, as well as meandering garden paths and natural garden layouts. The flexibility also allows you to adjust the shape of your edging on-site for a custom fit. What is the difference between galvanised and Corten steel garden edging?
The main difference is the appearance and how they resist corrosion. Galvanised steel edging is coated in zinc, giving it a shiny or matte silver finish and protecting it from rust. In contrast, Corten steel edging is designed to develop a rust patina on its surface. This rust layer is not a flaw – it forms a protective coating that seals the steel underneath from further corrosion. Visually, Corten steel provides a warm, natural red-orange look that evolves over time, making it a popular choice for decorative landscaping. Is this Corten edging suitable for circular beds and borders?
Absolutely. The flexible nature of the steel allows it to be curved and shaped to fit round circular garden beds and borders. It’s ideal for creating flowing shapes, soft edges, and intricate designs that wouldn’t be possible with rigid edging materials. How long will Corten steel edging last?
Corten steel is known for its long-lasting properties. With minimal maintenance, it can last 25 years or more, depending on environmental conditions. Once the protective rust layer has formed, the steel underneath is sealed off from moisture and air, preventing corrosion and ensuring long-term durability even in wet climates. What width/height should I choose?
Our Corten steel edging comes in three different widths: 100mm, 150mm, and 290mm. The right height depends on your intended use. For lawn edging or flower beds, 100mm or 150mm is typically sufficient. For raised beds, pathways, or areas with loose gravel or soil, the deeper 290mm option provides greater containment and structural support. What thickness should I use?
We offer Corten edging in 1.5mm, 2mm, and 3mm thicknesses. For most standard garden applications, 1.5mm or 2mm is perfectly suitable. If your edging will be exposed to vehicle traffic, such as along a driveway, or will support heavy materials, 3mm thickness is recommended for added strength and durability. Can you cut Corten steel edging strips?
Yes, Corten steel can be cut using appropriate metal cutting tools, such as a grinder or hacksaw. However, it’s often easier to overlap any excess material behind the start point for a tidy finish. Don’t forget, we offer a free cutting service, so your edging arrives ready to install with no extra work required. We also offer a wide range of lengths and widths to suit most garden layouts. How do I install Corten steel edging?
There are several ways to install your edging depending on your preferences and tools. The strips can be welded together for a seamless connection, or you can drill holes and use joining plates that sit below the soil level. For a quicker installation, use our fold-over Corten pegs to secure the edging in place – just ensure your peg is twice the height of your edging for stability. We recommend using four pegs for the first strip of edging, then three pegs per additional length of edging laid. We also supply corner pieces to create right angles more easily. What does Corten steel edging look like?
Corten steel arrives as a plain, silver-grey metal, but when exposed to the elements, it begins to oxidise and form a rust-coloured patina. This transformation typically takes 6 to 9 months, depending on weather conditions. The final appearance is a rich, reddish-brown finish that gives your garden an attractive, natural look. If you'd prefer your edging to arrive pre-weathered, contact our sales team for more information. What is Corten steel?
Corten steel comes from ‘cor’ –rosion resistance and ‘ten’ -sile strength inherent in steel. Corten steel is a high-strength, weathering steel alloy designed to resist atmospheric corrosion. It develops a stable, self-protecting rust layer on the surface that acts as a barrier to prevent further corrosion to the steel underneath. That rust does not damage the product in any way, but instead protects it from the elements. This makes it a durable, low-maintenance alternative to traditional mild steel. The coating on the steel ages over time and exposure to the elements. It takes around a year to fully develop and will produce runoff when you first install it. Please note this runoff can stain, so be mindful of where you install the Corten steel edging. Once the Corten steel has been outside for a few months, that runoff should stop and you should have a beautiful rust-coloured border.Corten Steel Edging

We wanted to design something that allows you to link the pieces together without the use of tools – and so we created the Interlocking feature. Similar to our conventional Shark Tooth edging, this product comes with a triangular spike pattern which allows it to sink into the ground. Each strip is complete with a cut out on either side so that the pieces can easily slot together and insert into the ground – it really is that simple! No welding, no bolts, just beautiful borders, fast. This product is exclusive to Buy Metal Online and has US and Canadian design patent. Please note the Teeth are 150mm in height, then your selected height will be above ground.
Made from our coveted Corten steel and boasting exceptional durability, this product will transform into the desired rustic look over time with natural element exposure, so all you need to do is sit back and relax whilst nature does its work.
Stylish Corten steel
Corten steel is rust-coloured metal that looks good and last for decades. The Angel of the North is made from Corten steel! Corten starts out grey in colour and oxidises to orange-brown after 8-10 months' exposure to the elements. Don't worry, Corten steel isn't corroding when it turns orange. In fact, it is developing an external layer that will protect the inner metal from moisture and decay. That's why Corten is as functional as it is good-looking. It's easy to see why architects and designers love this metal - and now you can quickly and easily introduce it to your outdoor space. Create rustic and industrial aesthetics with this versatile and durable material. See just how good Corten looks in gardens; browse our range of Corten garden products.
The specifics
Our Interlocking Shark Tooth Corten Edging arrives unweathered and is available in packs of 10 or 25 in the following dimensions:
Length: 2000mm or 2500mm this is the main section measurement. The interlocking sections are not included in these measurements.
Height (excluding 150mm for the teeth): 100mm, 150mm, 290mm
Each pack will come with 2 end pieces. One side of each piece will have the interlocking section on to attach to your last length in the row, then the other side is a straight edge.
Good for: Lawns, flower beds, gardens, yards, allotments, courtyards, borders, rockeries, raised beds, vegetable patches, herb gardens.
How it's made:
Nickel, chromium and copper are added to steel to create Corten. Originally designed for railway carriages, this is an alloy that's crafted to last. We cut 'sharks' teeth' into our edging to make it easy for you to sink into the ground; now we've added the interlocking function so that creating longer borders is a doddle.

Our regular Corten steel garden edging is a huge hit with landscapers, but we wanted to create a product that everyone could install, even at home. By cutting a triangular shark's tooth pattern into the metal, we've made installation simple – all you have to do is sink the points into the ground and you're good to go.
Available in a wide range of heights and lengths, our versatile spiked lawn edging will arrive to you in its natural state, with weathering causing the orange colour to develop within 8-10 months.
That distinct coppery hue might look rusty, but the colour's actually down to an oxidisation process that protects the core from further corrosion. Browse our full range of Corten steel garden products for more ideas on how you can transform your outdoor space with weathering steel.
Good for: Lawns, flower beds, gardens, yards, allotments, courtyards, borders, rockeries, raised beds, vegetable growing, herb gardens.
How it's made:
Corten steel is an alloy, which is why it is so weatherproof. The addition of chromium, nickel and copper to the steel means that as it ages, this metal develops a protective outer layer (that's the rust-coloured coating). We cut the Corten into strips with shark-tooth edging, so you can create neat borders in minutes.

Is this Weathering steel edging flexible?
Yes, our Corten steel edging is designed to be flexible and adaptable. The strips can be bent manually or with tools to create smooth curves and shapes, making them perfect for circular beds and borders, as well as meandering garden paths and natural garden layouts. The flexibility also allows you to adjust the shape of your edging on-site for a custom fit. What is the difference between galvanised and Weathering steel garden edging?
The main difference is the appearance and how they resist corrosion. Galvanised steel edging is coated in zinc, giving it a shiny or matte silver finish and protecting it from rust. In contrast, Weathering steel edging is designed to develop a rust patina on its surface.
Weathering steel is known for its long-lasting properties. With minimal maintenance, it can last 25 years or more, depending on environmental conditions. Once the protective rust layer has formed, the steel underneath is sealed off from moisture and air, preventing corrosion and ensuring long-term durability even in wet climates. What width/height should I choose?
Our Weathering steel edging comes in three different widths: 100mm, 150mm, and 290mm. The right height depends on your intended use. For lawn edging or flower beds, 100mm or 150mm is typically sufficient. For raised beds, pathways, or areas with loose gravel or soil, the deeper 290mm option provides greater containment and structural support. What thickness should I use?
We offer Weathering edging in 1.5mm, 2mm, and 3mm thicknesses. For most standard garden applications, 1.5mm or 2mm is perfectly suitable. If your edging will be exposed to vehicle traffic, such as along a driveway, or will support heavy materials, 3mm thickness is recommended for added strength and durability. Can you cut Weathering steel edging strips?
Yes, Corten steel can be cut using appropriate metal cutting tools, such as a grinder or hacksaw. However, it’s often easier to overlap any excess material behind the start point for a tidy finish. Don’t forget, we offer a free cutting service, so your edging arrives ready to install with no extra work required. We also offer a wide range of lengths and widths to suit most garden layouts. How do I install Weathering steel edging?
There are several ways to install your edging depending on your preferences and tools. The strips can be welded together for a seamless connection, or you can drill holes and use joining plates that sit below the soil level. For a quicker installation, use our fold-over Corten pegs to secure the edging in place – just ensure your peg is twice the height of your edging for stability. We recommend using four pegs for the first strip of edging, then three pegs per additional length of edging laid. We also supply corner pieces to create right angles more easily. What does Weathering steel edging look like?
Corten steel arrives as a plain, silver-grey metal, but when exposed to the elements, it begins to oxidise and form a rust-coloured patina. This transformation typically takes 6 to 9 months, depending on weather conditions. The final appearance is a rich, reddish-brown finish that gives your garden an attractive, natural look. If you'd prefer your edging to arrive pre-weathered, contact our sales team for more information. What is Weathering steel?
Once the Corten steel has been outside for a few months, that runoff should stop and you should have a beautiful rust-coloured border. You might also be interested in...
