Stainless Steel Plate

Everything including the kitchen sink As the name suggests, this long-term favourite of the metal world is resistant to rusting, corrosion and (you guessed it) staining. It gained its title around the time it was invented, at the beginning of the 20th century. Back then, one of the most common uses for the metal was the production of cutlery, where hygiene was (and still is) obviously a must. These days, stainless steel is used for all manner of varying needs, but the name has stood the test of time (and it is still the most popular metal for making cutlery). Unlike the carbon steel (also known as mild steel) used as a basis for many metals, stainless steel has a minimum of 10.5% of chromium content by mass – and often contains up to 20%. Our stainless steel sheeting comes in a huge range of thicknesses to suit your project and we offer two types: 304 and 316 stainless steel. Prices are competitive and we have lots of options. Choose the size you need, or take advantage of our free cutting service and have it trimmed down to precisely the amount that’s right for you. There’s also a choice of two finishes: dull polished or mill finished. Mill finished steel doesn’t have the “brushed” effect that’s commonly associated with this type of metal. If that’s what you’re looking for, select dull polished stainless steel sheet from the box above; this metal has been specially treated to give it the fine-line, satin-textured pattern that can often be seen on jewellery, domestic appliances and watches. Good for: Industrial equipment, hardware, catering machinery and furniture, food processing, cookware, cutlery, crockery, household uses, surgical instruments, construction materials, tools, shipbuilding, manufacturing and many more. Brushed stainless steel plate (or dull-polished) is popular for household sockets, sink splash-backs and other stylish features. How it’s made: Steel is one of the most refined metals that can be taken from iron. It’s also 100% recyclable; experts reckon that in the future, the vast majority of the steel products we use will be manufactured from recycled steel items. Stainless steel is an alloy, which is a mixture of more than one metal. It is blended with at least 10.5% chromium (also known as chrome), which gives it tough protection against oxidisation (rust). What our customers say about us: “A great range of products.” –Marc, Trustpilot “Excellent advice followed by excellent service.” – Fiona, Trustpilot Random Fact: The record for the largest stainless steel cooking spoon was set in Marktoberdorf, Germany in 2006. Measuring in at a lengthy 10.01 metres, the spoon was manufactured by the Rösle GmbH & Co. KG.

What is aluminium chequered plate?

Safety first... Similar in appearance to steel chequer plate, diamond plate aluminium offers a non-slip surface where you need safety underfoot. More lightweight than steel tread plate, it can be easily secured to existing flooring, adding a layer of texture that’s got plenty of grip and reducing the risk of slipping. The distinctive 5-bar pattern on diamond plate makes it sought after not just for performance, but for style, too: our aluminium treadplate is often used in interior design and car modification, as well as in industry. It comes in three thicknesses and a wide choice of sizes. What’s more, our free cutting service means we can trim your diamond plate sheets down to precisely the amount you need, with no minimum order. If you’re looking for a sturdier, stand-alone diamond plate sheet, see our steel chequer plate. Good for: Van flooring, kick-plates, industrial-style decor, vehicle modification, stairways, walkways, lifts, factory floors, ramps, freezers, trench covers, walls and more. How it’s made: At the factory, aluminium is passed through two giant rollers, one which is smooth and one which is marked with a raised pattern, the well-known diamond or 5-bar, which gives this material its name. This process means that the metal sheets are embossed with diamonds or bars on one side and smooth and flat on the other, producing diamond plate aluminium that’s ready to be walked on. Benefits:
  • Easy to fit
  • Non-slip
  • Durable
  • Versatile
Random fact: In Japan in 2013, aluminium drinks cans were collected and carefully arranged to create a replica of Yoshida Castle, an impressive building which happened to be standing just beyond the recycled sculpture. The creation promoted the idea of recycling and achieved the world record for a structure made with the most aluminium cans.

What is Aluminium Sheet? The Lightweight One Ultra-ductile, rust resistant and super-light, our sheet aluminium is suitable for a multitude of uses. This nonmagnetic, widely recycled metal is perhaps most well-known for its role in drinks cans and other packaging. Thanks to its lightweight properties, though, it also aces aircraft engineering, luggage components, bicycles and auto parts. What’s more, aluminium is incredibly resistant to corrosion, making it a clever choice for windows, roofing and other construction jobs. Aluminium is easily identifiable by its bright, silvery sheen. Just like the other metals we sell, we can provide your sheet aluminium in exactly the size you need, meaning no excess product will go to waste. There’s no minimum order, too, so you can order as much or as little aluminium as you need. Thicknesses: 0.9mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, and 6mm thick sheet. Good for: Packaging, drinks cans, foil sheets, cookware, home appliances, signage, storage tanks, trailers, welding, car panels, spacecraft, aerospace engineering, furniture, gutters, awnings, roofing, siding, luggage, bicycle components, ships, military vehicles, armour. How it's made: Get ready for a quick science lesson: the process of making aluminium sheet begins with bauxite, a soil-like substance that’s mined from underground. Clay is washed off the bauxite, which then goes through a grinding machine, before being plunged into a hot bath of caustic soda and lime. The caustic soda and lime refine the bauxite, extracting aluminium oxide. The aluminium oxide is filtered and heated, and by now takes the form of white powder. Next, electricity and carbon are combined with the aluminium oxide to create aluminium; an electrical current is passed between a negative carbon cathode and a positive carbon anode. The anode and the oxygen in the aluminium oxide react, producing carbon dioxide. This process creates liquid aluminium, which is moulded into ingots ready to be rolled out into aluminium sheets at the factory. Benefits:
  • Low density
  • Versatile
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Recyclable
What our customers say about us: “Competitively priced. Helpful on the phone before online ordering. Cut to size for us. Promptly delivered. Can't ask for more!” – Mr N Smith, Trustpilot, September 2016. Random fact: The largest sculpture made of aluminium drinks cans was built in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2012. Comprising 46,566 aluminium cans, the structure was a scale model of the city’s landmark, 200-year-old Al Maqta Fort. It was built on Al Taweelah beach by a team of 30 people, and it took six full days to create.

What are Galvanised Flashings?

Sometimes referred to as metal roofing flashings, roof flashings, or edge trims, galvanised steel flashings are typically used to finish the ends and corners of roofing sheets to protect a building against water ingress. Galvanised flashings are specially designed metal strips that seal roof edges, corners, joints, and other vulnerable areas of a building. By sealing building ends and diverting water away from these critical points, metal flashings help prevent leaks, dampness, and weather-related damage. Made from galvanised steel, these flashings are coated with a layer of zinc that protects the metal beneath from rust and corrosion. This protective layer ensures long-lasting durability, even in harsh weather conditions.  Galvanised flashings are commonly used in roofing, cladding, and drainage systems, providing essential reinforcement to maintain the integrity of a structure. Whether for new builds or renovation projects, galvanised flashings are vital for maintaining the integrity of both residential and commercial properties.

What is stucco aluminium sheet? Textured excellence Lightweight, versatile and resistant to corrosion, aluminium sheet has already got a lot going for it. Add in a “pebbled” finish and you’ve got a sheet metal that’s as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical. This is incredibly corrosive-resistant Grade 1050A alloy aluminium, and it’s been embossed with a textured pattern that gives it an attractive look. This finish diffuses light and stops it from reflecting off the surface of the metal, so you get all the strengths of aluminium, without the glare. As the surface is already dull, it ages far better than smooth aluminium. You might recognise the “orange peel” stucco pattern from travel trunks and vanity cases, and it’s also used extensively in interior décor. Available in a choice of two thicknesses (0.9mm and 1.2mm), our stucco aluminium sheet makes smart, stylish cladding and panelling, and is often used in modern kitchens and bathrooms. Just like all Buy Metal Online sheet metals, we’ll cut your stucco aluminium sheet down to size for free, meaning you get exactly the amount you need. And with no minimum order, no job is too small. Good for: Kitchens, bathrooms, splashbacks, luggage, panelling, cladding, roofing, construction, interior design, art, installations, displays, refrigeration, insulation, air conditioning. How it's made: Aluminium is made when aluminium ore (bauxite) is mined from the earth and refined in a bath of lime and caustic soda. This allows the extraction of aluminium oxide, which is filtered, heated and combined with electricity and carbon to form liquid aluminium. The liquid aluminium is moulded into ingots then rolled out into sheets, which, in the case of stucco aluminium sheet, are then embossed with the ‘pebbly’ pattern. Benefits:
  • Very strong
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Non-reflective
  • Recyclable

More orders will most certainly be on the way.” – JohnnyBoy, Trustpilot, November 2016. Random fact: In space, astronauts wear gloves and socks made from fabric with aluminium added to it. As a strong insulator, the aluminium traps the heat within the body and helps to stop astronauts from feeling the extremely cold temperatures of space. It’s a similar idea to the plastic, soil-covered blankets that are often handed out to keep runners warm after they’ve finished a long race. Aluminised thermal clothing is now popular on earth as well as in space.

What is  Bright Galvanised Steel Sheet? Robust, reliable and rust-resistant, our bright galvanised steel sheet is just the job when weather-proofing is a must. With its tough coating of zinc carbonate, it’s designed to withstand the most extreme of the elements and last for a very long time. From walls to washing machines, the scope for our best-selling metal is endless. We know that everyone’s need for galvanised steel plate is different, which is why we’re happy to cut yours down to the exact size you need. This free service ensures you have exactly what you need for your project, with absolutely nothing going to waste. Plus, there’s no minimum order, meaning no job’s too small. Good for: Car parts, roofs, inner and outer wall sheeting, sheds, construction parts, buckets, planters, wheelbarrows, drainpipes, tubes, sections, machine-building, domestic appliances, electrical goods, agricultural machinery and many more. Galvanised steel’s properties make it tough enough for most exterior projects. Painting: Galvanised steel looks great when it’s coated in colour, but always use specialist primer and paint. How it’s made: Galvanised sheet steel is made when sheet steel is passed through a bath of red-hot, molten zinc. When oxygen reacts with pure zinc, zinc oxide is formed. Zinc oxide reacts with carbon dioxide to form zinc carbonate. It might be dull and grey, but what it lacks in lustre, zinc carbonate more than makes up for in performance. Like an excellent outdoor jacket, zinc carbonate is what protects the steel within from the weather, and the reason why galvanised steel sheets are a proven favourite in the great outdoors. Galvanised steel used to be easily recognisable by its trademark star or spangle pattern, formed on the metal’s surface during the treatment process. As smoother surfaces became more popular, spangles shrunk and, in the case of our steel sheet, they are not visible to the naked eye. Our Bright Galv is very shiny Benefits:
  • Resistant to rust
  • Versatile
  • Tough coating
  • Great for outdoor projects
Random fact: The process of galvanisation is named after Luigi Galvani, the Italian chemist who discovered electromagnetism in 1781 during an experiment on frogs’ legs.

What our customers say about us

What is brass sheeting?

The bold one With its unmistakable golden hue, everyone knows what brass looks like, but it’s its properties that make this metal such a perennially popular choice. An alloy of copper and zinc, brass sheet is used for everything from screws to radiators. Brass is great for hot forging and engraving; it’s also highly resistant to corrosion, brilliant at conducting heat and boasts a high tensile strength. Our brass sheet, CZ108, is also known as basis brass. It’s extremely flexible and just the job when severe bending is needed. Containing 37% zinc, its high purity makes it workable at both hot and cold temperatures, which is why it’s one of the most sought after varieties of brass sheet. Suppliers of all kinds of sheet metal, we can provide your CZ108 in exactly the size you need, with no minimum order. If it’s polished brass sheet you’re looking for, just let us know – we can arrange for your CZ108 to be buffed before it comes to you. Good for: Chains, hinges, locks, bolts, kick-plates, handles, radiators, signage, tubes, pipes, musical instruments, lamps, light switches, decorative applications and lots more. How it’s made: The desired quantities of zinc and copper are melted and mixed together in a scorching furnace, before being poured into moulds where they cool into solid shapes known as cakes. Once they’ve cooled down, the cakes are fed through rollers, which flatten them into thin sheets. Next, the sheets are ‘scalped’, a process which strips off the thin, outer layers of the metal which may have been subject to oxidisation. The sheets are often then re-heated and annealed, or cold-rolled, a number of times, until the required strength and thickness is reached. Benefits:
  • Conducts heat
  • Workable both hot and cold
  • High tensile strength
  • Resistant to corrosion
Random fact: In Germany in 2008, 15,761 musicians gathered at the WM Stadium, in Leipzig, to form the world’s largest brass band. The colossal group were so huge that they had to follow a conductor on a huge screen, creating a two second delay between the conductor’s instructions and the music.

Brass kitchen splashbacks

Brass splashbacks from Buy Metal Online are carefully selected for their quality, looks and finish. We select the best brass out there and can provide it in standard sizes or cut it to size. Lead time for lacquering can be up to 10 working days from order. Brass is richer and has more character than stainless steel yet is just as easy to work with. All of our brass splashbacks are delivered ready to fit. All splashbacks can be affixed using metal fixings or adhesives. This flexibility is one of the reasons metal splashbacks are so popular! Metal splashbacks have several advantages over plaster or tile. They are easier to fit, requiring just some fixings or adhesive. They are easier to clean, with no grooves and no grout to discolour and they are available in a range of colours and finishes that tile just cannot compete with. Best of all, they are affordable too! They can be cheaper to buy and install than tile, can last longer if looked after properly and are exceptionally durable. All characteristics we look for in our kitchens.

Caring for your brass splashback

Another key advantage of brass is that it is very low maintenance. All you need to keep it clean is some warm water.  Wipe it down regularly and your brass splashback will give you many years of faithful service! If you splash anything acidic, deeply coloured, or abrasive onto your brass splashback, wipe clean immediately to prevent marking or discolouration.

cold rolled steel sheet metal

Cold Rolled Steel Sheet Strong Stuff Hardy, versatile and forever popular, our cold reduced steel sheet is brimming with benefits. Its name comes from the way it is processed down at the steel mill; it is flattened at room temperature, which is positively freezing when compared to the normally-scorching heat used in metal production. Scroll down if you want to find out the science behind this, but all you need to know for now is that the cold-rolling technique produces a steel sheet metal that’s incredibly strong, smooth and slim. Far less ductile than its hot-rolled relative, cold-reduced mild steel sheet makes a brilliant base for enamelling and coating and is a great choice for building, construction and a whole lot more. All our metals come in a huge selection of thicknesses and master sizes and can be trimmed to exactly the size you want, ensuring nothing goes to waste. What’s more, there’s never a minimum order charge, so however much (or little) cold rolled steel sheet you need, we can provide your perfect amount. Good for: automotive components, body panels, construction parts, building, sections and tubes boilers, drums, bathtubs, radiators, domestic appliances, furniture, organic coating, powder coating, electrical goods and many more. How it’s made: At the mill, mild steel sheet (sometimes known as carbon steel or plain steel) is passed through two giant cylinders, which flatten it into shape like an enormous pancake. It’s a similar process to the way our hot rolled steel sheet is made, but the difference is in the temperature. Although the word ‘cold’ makes the process sound rather chilly, it actually happens at room temperature. The key is in the fact that the steel is processed when it’s below its recrystallisation temperature; the cold rolled steel sheets come out smoother, thinner, less malleable and very strong. Benefits:
  • Strong
  • Smooth
  • Thinner
  • Versatile

What our customers say about us

What is copper metal sheet?

The conductor Instantly recognisable by its unique, orangey hue, copper sheet is a distinctive, malleable metal that’s up to hundreds of jobs. One of the basic chemical elements (CU in case you’ve forgotten your Periodic Table), it’s been popular for millennia. Our copper sheet plate comes in a range of thicknesses and we can cut it to size, supplying you with just the amount you need. Traditionally, copper’s long list of pluses have made it a firm favourite in industry and construction: after all, it’s soft, brilliant at conducting heat and electricity, resistant to corrosion, and even has antibacterial properties. More recently, though, the metal has come into high demand by architects and interior designers simply because it looks great. Whether you’re looking for form of function, there are limitless uses for copper sheet. UK based, we supply sheet metal to clients all over the country. When you buy copper sheet from us, there’s no minimum order. Just select the amount you need from the box above, or call us to take advantage of our free cutting service. How is it made? Copper ore is mined from deep underground, then taken away to be cleaned, crushed and milled. It then undergoes several chemical processes and put into an electro-refining tank for purification, before it is eventually melted down and cast into ingots, rods, or cakes. To make copper sheet, these chunks of copper are then rolled out flat. Benefits
  • Malleable
  • Conducts heat
  • Conducts electricity
  • Aesthetically stylish
Random fact: Apart from gold, copper is the only metal on the Periodic Table that isn’t silver or grey in colour.

Stylish and modern, copper splashbacks and worktops have become a huge trend in interior design. Not only do copper splashbacks add designer chic in both large and small kitchens, this interior statement ages gracefully and is also easy to maintain. Lead time for lacquering can be up to 10 working days from order. Is copper a good choice for the kitchen? Copper splashbacks are easy to maintain and get even more beautiful with age as their colour develops in the oxidation process. Ideally polished or covered with its rustic, green patina, copper works perfectly with any design style. With its orange hue, allowing light to bounce beautifully and warm up contemporary designs, copper splashbacks are a great choice to enrich modern and sleek kitchens. This timeless metal looks stunning in more traditional or rustic settings, as well as industrial interiors. Copper not only looks great but also has properties that make it the metal of choice for kitchen surfaces. Copper, as well as its alloys such as brass and bronze, is a natural antimicrobial material. This means that copper resists microbes even better than the kitchen favourite stainless steel! Research shows that even the nastiest of bacteria, such as E. coli, is rapidly and almost completely killed when it comes into contact with copper. What our customers say about us: Care instructions for copper splashbacks or copper worktops Copper worktops and splashbacks should be cleaned with water and a mild detergent (such as washing-up liquid or mild soap). For the best results use specific copper cleaning products and avoid using bleach (which you won't need anyway because of copper's antimicrobial properties). Copper does not like acids or salt, so if a spillage occurs, rinse immediately with fresh water and then dry with a soft cloth. Copper splashbacks and worktops from Buy Metal Online We offer cut to size copper sheets which are perfect to use for a copper splashback or worktop. We supply copper splashbacks for both domestic and commercial kitchens. Whatever size, we will cut the exact amount you need and deliver copper sheets straight to your door. Aged copper splashbacks from Halman Thompson Each sheet handcrafted with its own unique patina pattern. These sheets are finished with a gloss lacquer to prevent the sheet from ageing further. Perfect for creating a standout feature in your kitchen or bathroom. Check out aged copper splashbacks on Halman Thompson.

How Corten steel is made Corten steel, often referred to as weathered steel, is made from high quality steel with a special alloy that encourages surface rust. That rust does not damage the product in any way, but instead protects it from the elements. Corten steel comes from ‘cor’ –rosion resistance and ‘ten’ -sile strength inherent in steel. The coating on the steel ages over time and exposure to the elements. It takes around a year to fully develop and will produce runoff when you first install it. This runoff can stain so be mindful of where you install the Corten steel edging. Once the Corten steel has been outside for a few months, that runoff should stop and you should have a beautiful rust-coloured border. Common uses for Corten steel Corten steel is an innovative product often used in architecture and sculpture. Think Angel of the North and you’re on the right track. We stock a range of Corten products for the garden, including firepits, raised border boxes, stairs, storage options, tables and a range of other products. It is also used in building, industry, landscaping and art. The aforementioned Angel of the North or the new Look II Statue in Plymouth created by Sir Antony Gormley are two examples of this material being used. What our customers say about us: Benefits of Corten steel Corten steel has many benefits, including:
  • Very hard wearing
  • Weather-resistant thanks to that red layer of rust

Corten steel random facts Corten steel is a special combination of steel and alloy. That alloy adds an exterior coating to the material that rusts when exposed to the elements. That rust takes a while to develop and will stop once the tiny pores in the steel become full of rust. The end product is weather-resistant and has a much longer lifespan than bare rolled steel.

Our Interlocking Shark Corten Edging is a brand-new product that will provide year-round appeal to any landscape. We wanted to design something that allows you to link the pieces together without the use of tools – and so we created the Interlocking feature. Similar to our conventional Shark Tooth edging, this product comes with a triangular spike pattern which allows it to sink into the ground. Each strip is complete with a cut out on either side so that the pieces can easily slot together and insert into the ground – it really is that simple! No welding, no bolts, just beautiful borders, fast. This product is exclusive to Buy Metal Online and has US and Canadian design patent. Please note the Teeth are 150mm in height, then your selected height will be above ground. Made from our coveted Corten steel and boasting exceptional durability, this product will transform into the desired rustic look over time with natural element exposure, so all you need to do is sit back and relax whilst nature does its work. Stylish Corten steel Corten steel is rust-coloured metal that looks good and last for decades. The Angel of the North is made from Corten steel! Corten starts out grey in colour and oxidises to orange-brown after 8-10 months' exposure to the elements. Don't worry, Corten steel isn't corroding when it turns orange. In fact, it is developing an external layer that will protect the inner metal from moisture and decay. That's why Corten is as functional as it is good-looking. It's easy to see why architects and designers love this metal - and now you can quickly and easily introduce it to your outdoor space. Create rustic and industrial aesthetics with this versatile and durable material. See just how good Corten looks in gardens; browse our range of Corten garden products. The specifics Our Interlocking Shark Tooth Corten Edging arrives unweathered and is available in packs of 10 or 25 in the following dimensions: Length: 2000mm or 2500mm this is the main section measurement. The interlocking sections are not included in these measurements. Height (excluding 150mm for the teeth): 100mm, 150mm, 290mm Each pack will come with 2 end pieces. One side of each piece will have the interlocking section on to attach to your last length in the row, then the other side is a straight edge. Good for: Lawns, flower beds, gardens, yards, allotments, courtyards, borders, rockeries, raised beds, vegetable patches, herb gardens. How it's made:  Nickel, chromium and copper are added to steel to create Corten. Originally designed for railway carriages, this is an alloy that's crafted to last. We cut 'sharks' teeth' into our edging to make it easy for you to sink into the ground; now we've added the interlocking function so that creating longer borders is a doddle. Benefits:
  • Amazingly easy to install
  • Long-lasting
  • Great-looking
  • Weatherproof

Boasting rustic looks and incredible durability, Corten, or weathering steel, offers an instant industrial aesthetic that gets better with age. Our regular Corten steel garden edging is a huge hit with landscapers, but we wanted to create a product that everyone could install, even at home. By cutting a triangular shark's tooth pattern into the metal, we've made installation simple – all you have to do is sink the points into the ground and you're good to go. Available in a wide range of heights and lengths, our versatile spiked lawn edging will arrive to you in its natural state, with weathering causing the orange colour to develop within 8-10 months. That distinct coppery hue might look rusty, but the colour's actually down to an oxidisation process that protects the core from further corrosion. Browse our full range of Corten steel garden products for more ideas on how you can transform your outdoor space with weathering steel. Good for: Lawns, flower beds, gardens, yards, allotments, courtyards, borders, rockeries, raised beds, vegetable growing, herb gardens. How it's made:  Corten steel is an alloy, which is why it is so weatherproof. The addition of chromium, nickel and copper to the steel means that as it ages, this metal develops a protective outer layer (that's the rust-coloured coating). We cut the Corten into strips with shark-tooth edging, so you can create neat borders in minutes. What our customers say about us:
